Description : In this course, digitaldomain groomer LuisCadavid will teach you how to make wool for a creature. We’ll first discuss the different techniques and tools to work with, and then move on to Maya to get familiar with the creature model. We need to understand the volumes that will be used to make wool and also familiarize ourselves with the references before exporting the model to Houdini.
In Houdini, I will explain exactly how the hair is created here, and then we will prepare all the objects and create various VDBs, as well as separate the geometry for grooming. You will learn how to work with such tools as Curve Advect Tool, Guide Process: Bend, Guide Process: Set Direction, Guide Process: Lift, Length, Curve Mask and Noise Mask. You will also learn how to make your own custom tools to speed up the work process.
When you already know all this, the author will begin to create guide curves on the werewolf’s face, add shape and volume to them using various attributes. He will also add some hair buns before moving on to creating guides on the body, legs, ears and tail. Next, he will draw attributes that can later be combined together. When the first iteration of grooming is over, the author will show the selection of materials and HDRI and set the camera to see what our result looks like.
After completing this course, you will learn all the necessary basics for creating wool. This lesson is suitable for artists with a basic or intermediate level of work with grooming.
