Rocks and rocks are some of my favorite materials to create in Substance Designer. In this series of tutorials on creating rock materials, I’m going to show my most commonly used techniques.
In this first tutorial, we’re going to focus on capturing the basic shapes of different types of rocks. We’ll take a look at 5 different types of rock formations and practice different techniques for isolating basic shapes and capturing their distinctive characteristics. By the end of this tutorial, you will have a good understanding of the shape-making techniques that can be used in a variety of rock projects.
Part 2
Rocks and stones are one of my favorite materials to create in Substance Designer. In this series of rock making tutorials, I will be showing my most commonly used techniques.
In this second part we are going to look at how to apply aging and surface erosion. We’ll start with basic shapes and gradually add layers of cracks, holes, and so on. I’ll go over the various methods I’ve developed over the years. And I’ll show you what you should pay attention to and how to get the most realistic results. By the end of this tutorial, you will have a good understanding of how to create basic shapes and build photorealistic rock projects out of them.
